I love the low-key vibe & tasty sandwiches at Delicious Café in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood.

It’s a cozy, comfortable place with a cheerful chalkboard menu, a Chicago Bulls tapestry on the wall, old furniture and antique-like floral plates.  And even on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, there are plenty of seats available. It’s quiet enough to read or study, but not too quiet to catch-up with a friend over coffee.  I feel right at home here.

It’s a place where you can relax, or be productive – or even make a friend.  On my most recent visit, I smiled inside as I saw two strangers studying at different tables strike up a conversation and briefly join tables to talk in more detail before going back to work.

The coffee is quality.  You can even choose from Oat, Almond, or Rice Milk, or opt for local dairy milk.  Sometimes they’ll even make pretty designs in your foam.

They also have a rotating selection of pastries & prepared foods, and occasionally host dinner events.

But my absolute favorite thing about Delicious Café is the sandwiches!!! They are all made with fresh vegetables, and vegan meats & cheeses and served with colorful veggie-chips.

My most favorite Delicious Café sandwich is their Club Sandwich. Generously stacked with Tofurky deli slices,  Ste. Martaen Cashew Cheese, avocado, lettuce & tomato on 3 slices of bread with a schmear of Vegenaise, this is a SERIOUS sandwich.  Mike (my meat loving boyfriend) even agreed, and he devoured his sandwich.

The “B-L-T” (Bacon-Spinach-Tomato) sandwich takes home our 2nd-place ribbon for its thick pieces of tempeh bacon, juicy tomatoes, and creamy vegenaise. Yum!

Third prize goes to the Breakfast Sandwich of Tofu, Ste. Martaen Cashew Cheese, and Upton’s breakfast sausage on an English Muffin.

The sausage was so full of flavor and the sandwich was warm and well-seasoned making this a winner for breakfast – or lunch.

Lastly, our Honorable Mention  goes to the Grilled Cheese Sandwich.  The zesty, creamy cheese was pressed with fresh spinach leaves for an ooey gooey sandwich. It was a solid sandwich but I think it needed some extra oomph (like roasted red peppers, or sun-dried tomatoes) to stand up to it’s competitors on the menu.

What are your favorite sandwiches at Delicious Café?  Do you order off the menu or do you create your own?
