Giveaway: Freshii + Free the Children

Freshii has long been one of my favorite fast-casual restaurants.

I started going there years ago, as they were one of the few places downtown that I could find Tofu and Brown Rice on my lunch break.

Since then, I’ve been excited to watch them rapidly expand around Chicago, from just a couple of locations in the loop to now having 12 locations in Chicago-land (in addition to numerous locations around the US and around the Globe).

Even more exciting, I’ve watched them expand their menu.

They were already well ahead of the curve on the food-trend of “Bowls” – pick your own base (greens, grains or noodles), fruits & veggies (unlimited!), protein, and sauce.

Then I noticed some locations adding Quinoa to their menus.

Next, earlier this year, they started offering Collard Wraps!  Yes, Collard Wraps!   I can’t think of another chain in Chicago that sells Collard Wraps, and I love how forward-thinking Freshii is.

So, when Freshii reached out to me with an opportunity to tell my readers about their latest initiative and to giveaway a $25 Freshii Gift Card + Reusable Bowl, I was excited to share this with you all. (*Note: I was not compensated for this post.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.)

Freshii + Free the Children

Freshii is partnering with Free The Children, an international charity working to break the cycle of poverty.  (Note: I always check Charity rating sites before donating, and Free the Children scored very highly on Charity Navigator!)

For the month of December, Freshii is selling $5 limited edition reusable “green bowls” with proceeds going towards building kitchens & vegetable gardens at schools in the developing world.

66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry across the developing world, with 23 million in Africa alone.  These kitchens and gardens aim to give these children nourishment so they can concentrate on learning — not on hunger

To promote this initiative and remind Chicagoans to give back this holiday season, Freshii had Maasai Warriors from Kenya, Wilson Meikuaya and Jackson Letasuna, lead a fun run down Chicago’s Magnificent Mile this morning.  Freshii’s Founder & CEO Matthew Corrin and Free The Children Co-Founder Marc Kielberger were also in attendance.

I’m impressed with Freshii’s commitment to health and nutrition – both on their in-store menus and now also through their charity efforts.

How the “Freshii x Free The Children” Program Works

  • Visit a Freshii location to purchase the limited edition reusable bowl and help build school kitchens and vegetable gardens.
  • Each school kitchen and vegetable garden will provide 97,500 lunches to kids every year.
